give me a ring-a-ling..
So, I'd really like some help here, peoples..

I've decided that in October I'm probably just going to start paying for my own cell bill. Just pretty much break away from my parent's plan and get my own. Therefore, I really don't need to stay with Verizon. But it's really the only cell company I've ever known/had. And yeah, if I switched companies I couldn't get that nifty phone I wanted but, I'm sure I'd survive.

So, I'd kinda like some feedback on the companies. I checked out a plan through Verizon. And T-Mobile. But I'm really not sure. Which has better phone service. Or if any fuck you over with little extra charges. Or anything. But, here's basically what I need..

-Maybe something like 300 minutes. I really don't talk that much on my phone. I mean, that could change once I get my new phone if it actually doesn't suck. But, I really don't see myself talking much over that.
-Free nights and weekends. (Not necessary, but it might be kinda helpful)
-At least 500 text/picture messages. I text more than anything. 500 is probably the absolute minimum I would need, in all honestly. Especially once I get a picture phone and can actually send pictures to people.
-I don't know if all/many companies do this, but I'd really like to keep the same number I have now.

Free mobile to mobile doesn't really matter that much to me. I mean, I have it with Verizon and it hardly does crap. I think I know about 4 people who have Verizon. Same with all the other companies, though. I don't really know too many people with the same company. So, ::shrugs::.

Alright people, so.. from personal experience/research/whatever what company do you think I should look into. This doesn't need to be done until October. So, I have some time. And I'm sure by then some companies will have new deals or lower/higher rates. But, oh well. This is just so I can get an idea of what company I might want. And so I can maybe start lookin at some more nifty phones. :)

Verizon rocks. :) Stick with them. By far the best customer service out there.

Actually, the best thing to do is make a list of all the people you talk to/text on a regular basis. (Keep in mind that if your family has Verizon, you're going to spend more time on the phone with them later as you get older and move out, etc. - I text my mom all the time now!) Most of the cell companies now have in-network text/call plans. I have Verizon and so do alot of my friends, so I have unlimited in-network minutes and unlimited in-network text messaging. I also have an additional 500 text/picture/video messages.

My bill is about $85 per month, and here's what I get for it:

900 Peak time minutes
Unlimited night/weekend minutes
Unlimited in-network minutes (to other Verizon Wireless customers_
Unlimited in-network text/pix/vid messages
500 out-of-network text/pix/vid messages
Web access (I pay about $5 a month for that -- I check the weather and sports and movie times and e-mail, etc.)
Insurance on my phone (Well worth the $2.99 per month in case you ever lose it or break it - you'd only have to pay $50 to replace it)
$100 or $150 towards a new phone every two years when I renew my contract

I've heard decent things about Cingular, but like I said, Verizon is awesome. I've never had a problem and I've been a customer for over six years now. :)

Good luck!

i'm pretty sure they have to let you keep your number now. some lawsuit or something. good news for us, the consumers, though.

Don’t go to Sprint! That’s all I have to say. If I had a choice, I might choose T-Mobile, but they seem to hassle my friends who have accounts with them. Either that, or my friends are just irresponsible with their bills. lol.

Well i've had both Verizon and Cingular (who im with now). I liked my Verizon better. Service was better. And reception rocked. I got like 850 anytime. Unlimited mobile to mobile. 1000 text messages for an extra 5.99 a month. and free text messages to other verizon cells for like 75.oo a month. And with Cingular even though i am paying less ..the reception sucks. the service sucks. I only get 300 anytime minutes and 5000 nights and weekends with unlimited mobile to mobile. and 1000 texts for 9.99 for an average of 59.00 a month. They do have some hidden charges though. I didnt know when i got them that they charge you for using thier service. its not much. but if they didnt then my bill would be like 50.00 a month. Oh well. Anyways. Happy Searching.
